This programme marked the closure and demolition of the Glasgow Royal Maternity Hospital, commonly known as “The Rottenrow.” The hospital had operated from 1834 until 2001, relocating to the new Princess Royal Maternity Hospital at Glasgow Royal Infirmary before the old building was demolished in 2002 .
